Students will be exposed to the culture of academic and policy research using the latest tools and developments in information and communications technologies. Students will receive the opportunity to collaborate, learn and to practice their own talents on projects of importance to the college community, to national development and to building regional and international networks on behalf of the Dominica State College. In essence, interns of Create Caribbean Research Institute function as researchers and scholars at Dominica State College\u2019s think tank.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><br><\/strong><\/span><\/h4><h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Program Structure<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-618 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/createcaribbean.org\/create\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2014-12-05-09.48.55-e1449260673729-255x300.jpg\" alt=\"2014-12-05 09.48.55\" width=\"255\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clone.createcaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2014-12-05-09.48.55-e1449260673729-255x300.jpg 255w, https:\/\/clone.createcaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/2014-12-05-09.48.55-e1449260673729.jpg 671w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" \/>The internship program is an unpaid apprenticeship program. However, there will be opportunities for compensation for work on specific projects of the Research Institute that require additional student labour. Second-year student interns will be given priority for paid projects.<\/p>\n<p>Internships with the Research Institute are eligible&nbsp;to current students of the Dominica State College and require a minimum commitment of 5 hours per week during the regular semester to work and learn in the practice-based research environment of the Institute.<\/p>\n<p>A certificate of completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete a minimum total of <strong>150 hours<\/strong> during their tenure of study at Dominica State College. A special recognition ceremony will take place at the beginning of each academic year to recognize students who have completed the internship program during the previous academic year.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><br><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Program Activities<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-820 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/createcaribbean.org\/create\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0060-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0060\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clone.createcaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0060-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/clone.createcaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0060-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/clone.createcaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0060.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Interns will work under the guidance and instruction of the Director on administrative, research and teaching tasks for a range of programmes and activities related to the Institute\u2019s academic and community objectives. Interns report to the Director of the Research Institute via full-time administrative staff who coordinate their tasks and manage schedules and reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Interns are expected to learn and apply research and writing <strong>and\/or<\/strong> information and communication technology (ICT) skills to a variety of academic research projects (in digital and other formats). Interns are also expected to be available for assistance at Create Caribbean\u2019s courses offered at Dominica State College, participate in the Create and Code technology education workshops for children, and participate in other programming and fundraising activities offered by the Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Interns may also be asked to perform various administrative and support tasks to the Institute, particularly related to the dissemination of information about Create Caribbean\u2019s calendar of events.<\/p>\n<p>Priority majors for the internship program include (although other majors will be considered):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English\/Literature<\/li>\n<li>Information Technology\/Computer Science<\/li>\n<li>History<\/li>\n<li>Psychology\/Sociology<\/li>\n<li>Geography<\/li>\n<li>Tourism and Hospitality Studies<\/li>\n<li>Business\/Economics\/Entrepreneurship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><br><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The application period runs from August until October on a rolling basis. Click&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><a style=\"color: #ffcc00;\" href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/P5pNfiMcrBc5jynr1\">HERE<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;to apply!<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><br><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Program Rules and Guidelines<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Academic requirements of the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum GPA of 2.5 must be maintained throughout duration of the internship<\/li>\n<li>Completion (or audit*) of HIS 115 (Digital Humanities Research) elective course during academic program at Dominica State College.<\/li>\n<li>Students must matriculate for a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.<\/li>\n<li>Students must exhibit good conduct on campus and adhere to&nbsp;all school rules and guidelines, and display professionalism in all contexts pertaining to the work of the Institute.<\/li>\n<li>Students must be available for a minimum of 5 hours a week to work at the Create Caribbean office and lab on assigned research projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Duties of the interns are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborate on&nbsp;tasks associated with one or more research projects during each semester for a minimum of 5 hours per week.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct promotion of Create Caribbean programs and activities (sometimes on weekends)<\/li>\n<li>Attend and lead workshops for Create and Code curriculum children\u2019s workshops (sometimes on weekends)<\/li>\n<li>Provide administrative support \u2013 data entry, reception, filing and sales \u2013 to the Create&nbsp;Caribbean management and support staff.<\/li>\n<li>Write periodic blogs about their projects and tasks for the Interns&#8217; Blog page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>*Under special circumstances, students who cannot formally register for HIS 115 will be exempted by completing relevant coursework independently with the Program Director.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Research and Service Learning Internship Program at Create Caribbean Research Institute at Dominica State College is an academic research and service learning initiative.
