The project aims to contextualize the island\u2019s complex literary history and to explore the significant sociopolitical contexts that influenced literature about Dominica\u2019s dynamic physical and social geography.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This project uses both close and distant reading to provide literary analysis of several literary works and will include, geographical mapping of historical locations featured in each novel and overlay mapping of novels to view Dominica\u2019s geographical significance to Caribbean literary history. It also includes textual analysis and exhibits featuring manuscripts, images, timelines and other relevant information about the authors, their relationships to Dominica, and the novels\u2019 focus on the natural and social landscape of the island.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Novels for analysis:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li><em>Wide Sargasso Sea<\/em>, Jean Rhys<\/li>\n<li><em>The Orchid House<\/em>, Phyllis Shand Allfrey<\/li>\n<li><em>Autobiography of My Mother<\/em>, Jamaica Kincaid<\/li>\n<li><em>Unburnable<\/em>, Marie Elena John<\/li>\n<li><em>Pharcel<\/em>, Alick Lazare<\/li>\n<li><em>Kalinago Blood<\/em>, Alick Lazare<\/li>\n<li><em>Abraham\u2019s Treasure<\/em>, Joanne Skerrett<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This project is being developed to serve as a key educational resource for teaching Caribbean literature in secondary and tertiary schools. The various interpretations will also serve younger age groups by providing visual aids to the study of Dominica\u2019s featured historic sites.
